I stand corrected, but close.
OK WDW: couple of must sees-must dos.
1. Mahane Yehuda (the Jewish Market) on a Friday afternoon before onset of the Sabbath. One end is on Jaffa Rd the other at Agrippas where Climber mentioned King of the Schwarma. There are about a dozen mixed grill places on Agrippas, you can't go wrong.
2. Take an under the walls tunnel walk near the Wall - http://english.thekotel.org/content.asp?id=116
3. Get a copy of Jerusalem Walks by Nitza Rosovsky. It's a little old (1992) and much has changed, but the core of it is still good.
4. Make sure you're out and about on the midrechov (Zion Square in J-lem) on any Motzei Shabbat (Saturday night after the sabbath ends.)
5. Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Don't know if you're Jewish or not, but what IDF-Tanker wrote is true; flaunt your goyishness when you can.
6. Mt. Herzl cemetary and Yad Vashem. Also Ammunition Hill.
7. If you can, try to get out to Har Adar (Radar Hill) and visit the Harel Brigade (Palmach) monument there, and then go to Abu Ghosh for lunch. They're about 5-6 miles from Jerusalem on the TA highway.
8. Wait until the weather is cooler and combine the Latrun Museum with a hike along the Burma Rd.
9. Take a look at some of the information here - http://www.gemsinisrael.com/archive.html
10. Caves at Beit Guvrin
11. Should be at No. 5 - Rabin Museum in Ramat Aviv. After that, pcik either the Palmach or Haganah Museums, but you don't need both.
12. Tel Hai in the north, and eat at Younis Restaurant at Tsomet Golani (Golani Junction). Also see the Golani Museum there.
13. For when you're in Ashdod. Go visit Kibbutz Yad Mordechai.
I'll stop now.
ashkelons's nice. definatley check out the Marina, nice place to get a cup of coffee during the day, and at night there's some decent pubs. don't be surprised if you meet quite a few Irish there either.
someone mentioned before about the rockets, it's a good idea you know where the bomb shelters are just in case
if your lining up for something, or you need some customer service, speak your mind! don't wait in line and let people walk past you...
and when you get on a bus don't be surprised that even old grannies will be elbowing you out of their way. especially if your getting on the bus to Jerusalem.
I'm getting good tips without having even asked. We're off to Israel in two weeks: Jerusalem, Akko, Nazareth and Kinneret lake, and finally Tel Aviv.
Where will you be at the Kinneret? If possible arrange for a sunset jeep tour, preferably one that hit the Golan foothills. If you have a car, then take the time to drive to Tel Hai, maybe visit the Naot Sandal/shoe discount store too.
Akko is one of my favorite places, allow a good long time for it. Have lunch at Abu Christos on the water. Try and get in a visit to the Underground Prisoners Memorial Museum, but not at the expense of the Crusader ruins.
At kinneret, we will have one day with the rental. i'd like to get the feel of Nazareth as well, so the timing is'nt totally divided between the two. Caparnaum and Taghba are on the "to do" list. Hiking in the Golan, we unfortunately won't make it. I'm really in for the city and life atmosphere as well, and I just love hanging out and seeing how the locals get their day done with.
Akko, I planned two nights. Maybe use it to got to Haifa to see the Bab mausoleum, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the tip on the prisoner's museum. And Abu Christos. From what i read, Akko has an Arab majority.
I hope I won't mess up saying Shalom or Salaam over there. Might just end up saying "Bonjour". It'll make it easier.
Only the old city has an Arab majority. If you are a tough guy you should join the little Arab kids who jump off the city walls from Akko, they are without fear for some reason. I did it, and halfaway I got afraid and started moving like crazy so I landed on my head, but everyone thought it was funny...
Before you visit anything in Akko: you can get a special card for several sights in Akko, so you wont have to pay for all of them separately, it's cheaper if you want to see several places. The train from Akko takes you to downtown Haifa, and you'd be in walking distance of the German Colony.
And yeah the prisoner museum is a good place to go, it's very cheap as well. Lots of history in Akko in general.
For Akko, take a look at this, go midway down for the list/links.

If you can squeeze in the Ghetto Fighters Kibbutz on that part of the trip, it's worthwhile too.
Between Nazareth and the Kinneret you have a full plate. Both Capernaum and Tagbha are worthwhile. If you can then, try to fit in the Jesus Boat at Ginnosar on the lake's northern shore. If you're driving from Nazareth to Tiberius (or the other way) and you're on highway 77, then you'll pass the Golani Interchange. There's a great restaurant there called Younis - it's a must stop if you can.
Thanks a lot Orangewolf and Kaplanr
This may be a good resource too:

Wasn't the biggest Eilat fan either for quite some time, but just got back from there and had a really good time. Replace hairy Russians with a sh!tload of tanned French girls walking around and it's all good. Which in my case wasn't relevant since I went there with the girlfriend, but still.
Also, this.
Fun fun.
Red Sea Divers or Aqua-Sport?
Aqua-Sport. Crowded like an Indian train.
