    Because he's right with that.
All in all the breakup of the USSR might have cost a million lives if you put all the civil wars, famines and crime together.

I'd vote for him if he ever said that. Sadly, he doesn't. Wake up guys, he is moderately anti-Soviet.

Of course he is anti-Soviet. In the USSR members of CPSU did not accumulate 40 bln euro and control of country riches weren't in the hands of dosen people.

Too true. While the control was in the hands of very exclusive group of people in SU, these people did not treat the country as their personal piggy bank and people as serfs. Black Chaika, a state owned dacha residence, and access to Western goods were as good of perks as those people got. Late Soviet apparatchiks like Putin, who were in their '30s when the whole thing went belly up, are the most vigorous anti-Soviets. Consequently, they are the same people who robbed the country blind using their skills, status and connections accumulated during the Soviet era.

I just want my country back, you know. Strength is irrelevant, mostly I miss culture and people, not spoiled by consumerism and dog-eat-dog way of life. Naturally, it's impossible to recreate now.

To whom? For Russians - of course. For Germans - a great event, a chance appeared to unite Germany again and pull ossies out of commie misery, which wouldn't be possible if USSR was still going "strong". The same for the rest of post-commie central/eastern European states.

It did seem like the world was more stable with the USSR.

Putin is a relic of the Cold War, but he is right.

Umm...no. Just no. USA and USSR fought probably hundreds of proxy wars against each other.
