Usually the smallest DI is the nicest one. Also the 'Crucible' is the day where you can finally rest and have a nice long break during basic.

    Before I forget it again:

Good luck and my best wishes! I think the tip "ears open, mouth shut" goes for every military in the world.

Sucks to hear your shipping out date has been delayed (again). Don't worry, you will curse the day you signed your papers soon enough

Stay safe and write some picture postcards

    Recruits: Click Sir!
    Drill Instructor: Ears!
    Recruits: Open Sir!
    Drill Instructor: Mouth!

You "make" Mt. Suribachi with your foot lockers after they're dumped open. Ah, good times...

Don't worry, though; there'll be plenty of actual hills for you when you head up north.

If you see Drill Instructor Sergeant Dunn, kick him in the balls and tell him it's from Harris.

Change your socks and use foot powder.

Also when you get your peanut butter shot, life will suck. So that night fill your water bowls with the hottest water possible and sleep on em, your ass will thank you later.

My most important rule during basic training and other courses in the German Army was to stay off the DIs radar. If you´re graduating without them knowing your name, you did well. It´s pretty difficult, but the loudmouths and posers are those who attract too much attention and the DIs wrath.
Also, if someone screws up, the whole platoon suffers, so it´d be wise to "educate" your fellow recruits early on, to make sure you don´t have to pay too much for their mistakes.
During hot days often change your shirt and socks and during cold days don´t wear too much. If you´re cold while standing around move your body. If you´re wearing too many clothes and you suddenly have to move fast, your body will overheat. Better wear a bit too little than too much.

Whatever you´ll do, enjoy the time. Being in the military is often dull, boring and sucks alot, but you´ll have experiences you´ll never forget and meet people you´ll always stay in contact with.
    Stay frosty!
