Default German printer of Quran hints at stop amid controversy

ULM, Germany — A company that is printing German translations of the Quran to be given away by a fundamentalist Muslim group hinted Thursday that it wanted to stop after a controversy blew up over the project.
Politicians across Germany's political spectrum have attacked a campaign by a Salafist activist and businessman, Ibrahim Abu Nagie, to give away 25 million copies of the Islamic holy book in city pedestrian zones in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Damn right they should put a stop to this. Try handing out Bibles in Saudi Arabia, and see how far that gets you. Even if the Purity Police don't beat you to death, the State may do just that later. If you are a Saudi, then it could end with a bullet or a rope. Religious and cultural respect should be a two way street. How about a little reciprocity? The Korans can be distributed, if 25 Million Bibles can likewise be distributed in, say, Saudi Arabia. Sounds good to me.

Hate speech is not protected by 'freedom of expression'.
My guess is that spreading of militant Islam falls under that category.

The Salafist group behind this campaign has already started to threaten journalists responsible for critical coverage ("Watch out. We know where you live." etc)...

According to your criteria, Martin Luther's printing and distribution of German translated New Testament in 1522 would be considered 'hate speech'.

Why I am not surprised that Ulm is involved in this case.

I thought we were talking about speech, not the book? Which one is it?

While we are talking about rights, in my mind nobody has the right to force anything down your throat other than the constitutional law of the nation you reside in. If people want to live a certain way and it falls within the constitution then its perfectly OK, if its outside the constitution, or they force their views and way of life onto the majority, thats a ticket to the border and a hearty goodbye. Regardless if you are an immigrant or a 384th Generation national.
When do we rediscover the ability to "put our foot down" and protect the rights of the majority?
Germany is not Salafist, if Salafists want to live there I wish them the best of luck, but they do it within German Law, if thats to difficult then Germany is not the right place for them.

This is simple common sense, if you dont like the way a country operates, go somewhere else, how ****ing hard is it?

Yes, we know you like to stir the pot, but this arguement you have presented is dumb.
