Azerbaijan-Russia Natural Gas Pipeline Hit by Explosion, Fire

An explosion hit the Mozdok-Gazimagomed pipeline carrying natural gas from Azerbaijan to southern Russia, causing a fire.

The blast late yesterday in Azerbaijanís Shamakhi District section of the pipeline resulted from a gas leak, the state gas distribution company, Azariqaz, said on its website. No casualties were reported, and the fire has been extinguished, the company said.
Nizamaddin Quliyev, a spokesman for State Oil Co. of Azerbaijan, or Socar, said that gas supplies to Russia were not affected.

The explosion was powerful enough to be heard in neighboring districts, the private ANS television channel said, citing its reporter in the area.

Dang. Well good to know that nobody was hurt. Aside from a disturbed sleep for some folks and some pipeline workers pulling some overtime everything everything is OK, right?

    7. Don't make multiple accounts for yourself. If it's discovered (it's not difficult) that you have multiple accounts, all of them will be deactivated and most likely your ip subnet banned.

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, chairman of the Nord Stream shareholders' committee
No problem with Nord Stream, but somehow, I will always consider Schroeder a traitor. You don't get to be Chancellor of Germany one day and chairman of a consortium the next, especially one which you had to deal with from the position of Chancellor.

Who would refuse a gravy train corporate job at a retirement age with a seven figure paygrade? All you have to do is utilize connections and mingle to smoothen things up.

Same as high ranking military officers jumping into defense contractors' boardrooms right after retirement.

So traitor is a strong word here. Opportunist would be more fitting. But aren't we all?
