As for the others - declarations of war isn't what got the responsible leaders elected. It got them dropped. This wasn't my initial point though. Yours I basically read as if Western leaders could wreak havoc upon any theater and go unpunished while "RoW leaders" would be held accountable over every little massacre. Wouldn't that be a gorgeous sight were it true? How many times during the past 100 years was, in fact, nobody held accountable over freaking big massacres? How many dictators rest their obese asses on thrones made of the corpses of their innocent victims? In how many instances were Western decisionmakers willing to walk the talk but got stopped by the prospect of being voted out of office? Didn't Clinton refuse to respond to the Rwanda situation because so shortly after Mogadishu and the images of desecrated bodies the American voter didn't want another war? If you will the Falklands War, who stopped Galtieri from attacking the Falklands? Who stopped Saddam from attacking Iran? Who did stop Bashir from murdering hundreds of thousands in Darfur? Who stopped Kim's father from shelling that island or from sinking the Cheonan?
Right now more than 20 wars rage on this planet which no one is about to stop - with "who" and "no one" of course being the very subjects of the belligerent leaders.
Nobody is going to stop Kim and this will be true for Iran very soon, too. I wish it wasn't true but I'm convinced we'll have a fourth war in the gulf region soon and another one upcoming on the Korean peninsula.
So that's my point - if you're not democratically elected and command the power to make dissenters disappear, nothing's gonna stop you from doing whatever act of madness you'd like to commit. Nothing but violent opposition from the outside.
Having said all this, I wonder how a site dedicated to imagery of military equipment and personnel could actually represent evidence for "inherent hoplophilia" in Western minds. And if you truly think so, I cannot help but wonder why you registered here then.
I don't think so. If Iran were truly afraid we'd come after them, they'd have backed down 33 years ago. They seem to understand the fundamental mechanisms of Western politics better than you.I fail to see the connection to my previous post. And as for that - I'm pretty sure it was utterly clear what I was talking about: Me not thinkey words will stop the Mullahs from getting the bomb.
