Any info about the coordinates of the wreck?
Also this 1970 made for (US) TV variation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sole_Survivor_(1970_film) with Vince Edwards, Richard Basehart, William Shatner, and Lou Antonio among others. Ok, not great, but worth seeing if it's available somehow.
Any info about the coordinates of the wreck?
I wonder how many WWII aircraft wrecks are still out there? I mean, there has to be an intact Bf-109E or two laying about somewhere. I'm hoping they can find one or a Stuka soon.
According to a prominent desert war researcher, there's over 200 allied aircraft still listed as missing. I suspect a similar figure for the Axis as well.
And I believe they did recover another 109 E4/E7 from a Russian lake last year.
edited because didn't see other post. link to youtube...
There was also this similar TV movie with William Shatner and Richard Basehart called Sole Survivor.

Info on 260 Squadron from Pilots to Landing strips and MIAs/POWS etc.
Word has it the RAF Museum and JCCC are moving to identify and secure the aircraft and find out the fate of the pilot. If he's listed as missing there may be a search although JCCC don't have the same resources or full remit as JPAC so....
PS: Sadly the latest information is that the site has been vandalized and the wreck shot up and badly damaged. Given the location has been kept fairly quiet, the list of suspects isn't a very long one.![]()

There's still no confirmation of the A/Cs ID.

More story & Pilot identified - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ra-desert.html
No, still not identified yet. Copping is merely the most likely candidate. It's still speculation as the Curtis data plate is missing and the sand has scoured away the painted serial. Until some one can take it apart and check the factory stamps on the longerons, we won't know for sure.
It's just now made the news:

Another disappointing update. An Egyptian representative of the El Alamein Museum has learned from the locals that an illegal salvage team visited the crash site and removed large pieces of the air frame last week. The Egyptian authorities are trying to find out who it was but it looks like they wont be caught.
