Wholeheartedly agreed. It has to be hard time to be punishment. Without punsishment there is no redemption. Denying the victim and the perp any closure or ability to move on with their lives. Punishment is not taking rights away, it returns them. Put UN up on charges!

I know a guy who done hard time in Serbian jail, he said it was the easiest thing he ever done. But, in his case he was trying to move on with life after killing a girl in a vehicular accident.

I don't know of any facility with a spa (maybe you can provide me with a link), but you do know why they have that stuff right? So the prisoners don't go absolutely ape poo and start a riot. It's funny what happens to a mans outlook when he has no hope of every being released from a place.

On topic of the video, that's a complete breakdown in guard behavior. That is a symptom of a very poorly run prison and reflects very poorly on administration. While I don't think a prison should be the dungeon of the 13th century, there is no excuse to have cell phones and drugs in a prison.

On the other side, chances are this dude will be dead sooner or later, either from his poor dietary choices, or from his gangster lifestyle. I just hope it's sooner rather than later and no innocents get injured.

Apparently, you've been watching to many episodes of Oz, while ****** assaults and physical assaults happen in both jails and prisons, it's not it's depicted on TV or the movies.

Jails are designed to house pre-trial detainees (people awaiting trial who didn't get a bond, or couldn't pay it), people convicted of misdemeanor crimes (they serve 12 months or less), and people who've been convicted of felonies and are awaiting transfer to state prison (convicted felons serve their time in state prisons, and have to have at least 12 months on their sentence). A lot of jails are under contract to either the US Marshals Service, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), or the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to hold federal prisoners, as there's no federal detention facility in their area. To go get sentenced to federal prison, you have to be convicted of a federal crime (interstate trafficking, federal firearms charges, kidnapping, bank robbery, terrorism, RICO, etc.). Depending on your sentence, you still might end up in a local jail or state prison, as it's cheaper for them to contract with a local agency to hold you (say you get a DUI conviction in a state park, or on federal land, and there's no federal detention facility in the area, so they contract with a local jail to hold you for the length of your sentence).

Apparently you've never been down to USP Atlanta or USP Leavenworth, not exactly resort facilities.

Inmates can buy personal items off of the commissary/canteen using their own money.

The sad thing is that some do bad on purpose to go in prison
Happens in Japan among the elderly who are alone in a very individualistic society
Happens too (on a smaller basis) in Europe
And some end in Prison because of petty crimes that could be/should be excusable (at least from the "going in jail" pov) like stealing food in supermarkets simply to have food at the end of the month for the kids

Just food for though but remember guys, that any of us (yes you, me and anybody on this board) can end up in jail during our lifetime.
I prefer to know that those jails donot look like to some Turkish midnight express indoor

If I were him, I'd be more worried about how PO'd my cell block mates are that I ran my mouth on camera and got all the goodies taken away. If he had any sense at all (but he's already shown that he's not the sharpest tool in the shed), he should be begging to be put in solitary for a couple of years.
