Default Marine discharged over Obama comments

A Marine who used his Facebook page to criticize President Barack Obama has been discharged, a Marine Corps spokesman said Wednesday.

Good riddance to the oathbreaking turd. I don't care what your politics are. At the end of the day you serve the people's will or not at all.
10 years and he lost all of his benefits. I hope it was worth it.

Bye, bye. The simple fact is, that while you're in the military, you don't get to voice your personal opinions about the President.

Last year we had a similar incident here in Finland when a lieutenant was reported for calling our then-president a lesbian pseudo-communist in front of a group of conscripts during training...
After serving in the same unit a year earlier I'd say the staff there certainly had a tendency for the darker kind of humor. However, there's no excuse for talking s**t about the commander-in-chief before your own subordinates, who are trying fulfill their duty as citizens, often against their own personal gain. The rumoured perpetrator (the lieutenant's name hasn't been announced publicly, AFAIK) was also a known semi-asshole so I wouldn't be surprised if the reporting was also a personal favor on behalf of the conscripts who turned him in. Justice served, nonetheless.

I just don't understand the level of delusional self importance you have to have to act like this.

Without a doubt he was filled with misguided self-importance and in no way do I condone his behavior; however, I have mixed feelings about his less than honorable discharge. Unfortunately, for him he was taken to the woodshed as an example for every other serving Marine. The Corps wasn't going to let him slide when he stated he would refuse an order from the president.

He should have thought of that before he started running his mouth.

Dumbass is supposed to know better, as you get a yearly JAG briefing on what you can, and can't say about officers, members of Congress, and members of the Executive Branch, to include the President.

Had a guy in my platoon with a big ass poster of President Bush that said "DISOBEY" on it in his barracks room. Great Soldier, just don't know how he got away with it during inspection.
Think he did it mainly for shock value.

Somewhere in that Marine’s outfit there’s a SNCO (or company grade officer) who failed to show this young Marine the light before he went to far.
