At the end of the first video, "replace the communist regime, with an Islamic republic" ... Still very true today, just instead of a communist regime fighting, its our "democracy" that we think is going to take hold there... Just like then, as is now. Afghanistan isn't interested in democracy, socialism, or anything really. They want foreigners out, and Islam in control...

A lot of thing are similar, but as far I know Taliban dont have the same support from a foreign power as the Mujahedeen received from US.
