Default ICE Intel Chief pleads guilty in brazen, $500G scam

In a brazen criminal scheme to defraud taxpayers, one of the highest-ranking officials in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to helping embezzle more than $500,000 from the federal government.Over three years, James Woosley and at least five other ICE employees scammed the agency by fabricating expenses for trips that were never taken and for hotel, rental car and restaurant expenses that did not exist, according to court records. His son, also named James Woosley, and live-in girlfriend, Lateisha Rollerson -- both ICE employees -- allegedly ran the scam out of the elder Woosley's two Virginia homes.

    ...

One ICE employee involved was Ahmed Abdallat, the agency's intelligence supervisor in El Paso, Texas. Abdallat, a former colonel in the Jordanian Air Force, joined the agency in 1995 and worked throughout the Middle East, including three years in Saudi Arabia.

    ...

As a life-long intelligence officer with clearance to secret and classified papers on terrorism, narcotics and human smuggling along the Southwest border, Abdallat's file should have received priority review. Instead, he maintained close personal and financial ties to Jordan, apparently without suspicion.

This story seems to have largely escaped the public's notice. I even searched here for the original arrest story but didn't come up with anything. This is more distressing to me than that Secret Service thing, by far.

During a search warrant of Abdallat's home in El Paso, the FBI reported pulling out 29 boxes of evidence, including two Jordanian passports he denied having during background checks in 2000, 2005 and 2010. He also denied having foreign bank accounts, though the FBI found several written in Arabic after serving their search warrant.
More than distressing. A mole at the highest levels.

That's the worst of it! The other's that have either plead or have been charged were at least your run of the mill home-grown greedy bad apples. But, this Abdallat guy was not vetted properly from the start of his employment let alone during it.

Things aren't looking good for a lot of people over at DOJ and DHS right now.

You have to be a Born Us citizen to get employment on WPPS gigs etc, but you can become a ICe intel chief if your a former Jordanian colonel? How does that exactly work.

Doesn’t matter. From an OPSEC point of view, there should be a level that bars folks with a background like Abdallat’s. Unfortunately, the current, and past administrations are enthralled with PC and proving how wonderfully diverse they are at the cost of security.

Whoever vetted this guy needs to be canned.

You can throw around all the conjointed words you like, you still don't have enough evidence to come to a conclusion like you have.

He's been there since 95. How does that make it Obama's fault?

Sounds like he was a US citizen if he misused a diplomatic passport. Where does that fit in for you?

Hey Z....sky doesn't need my help, but you ARE aware that he has probably been the subject of more background investigations and had access to intell, the level of which, he would be threatened with all sorts of punishment by some E4 CID AGENT who flashed a badge and said he was investigating an "allegation" or a possible "security breach"....and he was subjected to these continuing "checks" while performing his intell duties until he left active duty..... right?

I mean....like he said....whoever vetted this guy needs to be horsewhi... canned.
