Yeah our queen is quite popular too, there's always been a lot of support for the monarchy here. Which is good IMHO.

Beatrix is popular because most people are thoughtless cattle. They watch all the pro-royalty propaganda on tv, wear orange hats on every possible occasion and think it's part of being Dutch to worship the queen. Few dare to speak out about how having a half-German family rule undemocratically is an outdated form of government. I'm sure they're nice people, but I don't want to pay for their mansions or let them have any sort of power that was not appointed to them through the will of the people. The monarchy is not a keystone of this land or its people. We've been a republic before and the country flourished during that time.

Regarding the EU, I agree with Hennie.

I mean, hurr durr geert wilders said it so i will disagree with it i hope he dies with his stupid hair lol idiot racist nazi populist.

    Nazi
    OHNOEZGODWIN

I'm not sure how William the Silent would feel about NL being a monarchy.
BTW, 'rule' is a bit of a strong word, looking at the queen's legal situation under the constitution and ministerial responsibility. Situation isn't that much different from when the Republic had a more or less hereditary Stadhouder.

This analogy is wrong on so many levels. Do you actually think the EU will fight a war to keep NL a member? Didn't think so. Fundamentally the US states and EU members are very different.

We're not going to secceede anyway. For one, it would mean losing what little political influence we have in Europe. Secondly, the administrative procedure on both sides would be a nightmare.

I agree, I don't see it happening. But doesn't all this talk boil down to Wilders pointing out the fact that the NL is constrained in regards to self-governance because of EU membership rules?

EU parliment is a waste of tax payers money full stop as is all those MEP's

You got more chance of seeing a named professional footie player in a shop than witnessing your locally elected MEP doing the rounds in your neighbourhood
