I have had a number of German cheeses but I bought them at a farmers' market from someone with whom I shared no linguistic knowledge so I have no idea what they were called. They were delicious.

Parmigiano-Reggiano goes well on top of most pasta dishes.
English cheddar, Gruyère and Emmentaler are great in macaroni and cheese.
I like the combination of French goat cheese and swiss chard instead of the traditional feta and spinach filling for spanakopita.

I'm very fond of a good Camembert, like the Président one. Not sure how common it is in other parts of the world but you can find them in any store around here.
