It depends. Computer graphics are one of the few high-paying areas left where you can excel without a degree. All that matters is the portfolio. I've known several who picked it up as a hobby and went on to do it as a profession.

A message about the freedom to succeed and the freedom to fail, and a fair chance for everyone......because without it we will lose our success and our freedom.
Very few people these days want "the pursuit of happiness;" they want the guarantee of happiness in the form of instant gratification and the ability or right to sue some big wig to get it. Sherehere the belief that everyone instead of having an equal opportunity was entitled to equal outcome crept into our psyche and stayed. People nowadays don't fail because they suck at life (and there are bunches of people that do) or because they failed to plan or make good decisions, but because they are victims of some oppression.
There are legitimate victims of circumstance, not everybody gets everything they want, there are times when, through no fault of our own, we are handed a sh1t sandwich and we can't help but take a bite. However, instead of looking to some government program from on high we need to look in and to some local solutions.
