Default Visegrad States pledge to form Battlegroup

The Visegrad States (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia) have pledged to create a battle group of more than 3,000 members within the EU by 2016.
Not much more is stated, perhaps more will be announced in Chicago.

Good for them, but sofar the EU battle groups have never been used, despite almost 10 years of existence.
I wrote my thesis about EU military cooperation and almost suffered a depression.

Where in the world are they going to use an army of 3,000 people?

And will it (excluding the Poles) be defeated by one IED?

Don't know why, but that made me laugh hard. I feel with you I hope I am able to write my Bachelor's thesis this semester without suffering any depression or the urge to jump in front of a train

Czechs have been fighting alongside Germans in Afghanistan, Slovaks have been there too.

Poland has its soldiers there too.

    Show some respect.

    You guys are ridiculous.

Go look up what a EU battle group is and what it's size purpose is.

Central European Nations Agree on Joint Combat Force

    May. 5, 2012 - 01:22PM | By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE

PRAGUE — Defense ministers from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia agreed May 4 to create a 3,000-strong joint combat unit to be put at the EU’s disposal.

“We want to put into place a combat unit for EU forces before the end of the first quarter of 2016,” Czech Defence Minister Alexandr Vondra told reporters at Litormerice, north of Prague.

The unit will be under Polish command, and its first exercise is due to take place in 2015, before it becomes fully operational, Vondra said.

Good, I never saw point in having one national in several battlegroups.

    All BGs are battalion-sized forces.

You are absolutely right. I know these folks are still currently engaged in combat operations in theatre and are serving honorably. My comment was illdone and a poorly worded stab aimed at HU's super low threshold and tolerance for casualties. My bad.
