There is a Mk8 from memory in the Air and space museum. Was given for a trial and never taken up. I took a photo when i was there. See below. The one above, as others have said is a kit plane ad 3/4 or 2/3 size. I think they make the kits here.

Several squadrons of the USAAF used them. 4th FS,52nd FG, used the code WD but wasnt a Photo Recon unit so wouldnt be un PRU Blue. they had the Mk.Vb's

VCS-7 of the US navy used Spitfires during Normandy for NGF spotting, then went back to OS2U Kingfishers.
    4th FG's 334/335/336th FS

I wasn't really thinking about the colour, just speaking in generalities. I've only seen photos of them cammed up. I suspect this was a "looks cool" scheme but I've got a bell ringing about blue Spitfires in the back of my mind...maybe in the Far East. I'm not too sure and I'm sure I can't be bothered looking it up!

    Good info though, thanks.

Disturbing to think we once stood in the same place.

And yeah, this particular Spitfire was build for the US. IIRC several hundred were - this one was painted in RAF colors for the museum.

    With clothes on... i know.

IIRC it was sent over for trial and "wasn't wanted". Have a photo of the plaque somewhere.

There is a photo recon Spitfire in the USAF museum in basically that color scheme. I think the only thing that's changed is going to a gloss finish. Photos on this other forum's page below.

Photo Recce Units painted their aircraft in a sky blue colour called PRU Blue. The colour on the kit isn't authentic but that's what he's trying to replicate.
