He's a funny d*ckwad - France does not interfere in Canada/Quebec affairs much less the independence of Quebec.

When the French President just like Obama at the moment has to put up with a different color in the Parlement, he's screwed.
    Ah, thanks

I bet 39% marginal tax rate Barry proposes sounds a lot less than they would have paid in France. They may think it is a great deal actually

More like had benefited from Greek flight, recent tinkering with tax rules had them move their money elsewhere probably round the same time UK Hedge fund types moved to some Swiss cantons.

They already have a worse fiscal policy than Germany, Italy and the UK. Why are they not leaving for those tax heavens? Furthermore there are enough tax niches that will remain. Artistic and social sponsoring will more than probably be left untouched. IE most high capital earners will have no problem keeping themselves shielded.

You always see this complaint that rich will move because of the taxes. Statistics tell us that it just isnt so.

Ive complained about the weather here for years, im still here here despite it. It goes same for the rich, they are not going to move because of some minor inconveniences. Especially when its possible that if they move to these tax heavens they are nobodies there. People like that people around them are envious, thats the point of getting rich.

I personally think we shouldnt tell people their gross income, would hear less complaining about taxes.

Or replace the numbers with words, you could make either little, average, much or ****loads. Government could then decide how much each of them was.

There was quite a lengthy piece on BBC London towards the end of last week, about the massive surge in French property purchases in affluent areas of the city. Estate agents have set up French-speaking offices for the purpose of cashing in, such is the demand. Apparently in some areas the French now account for over 50% of foreign property purchases, which seems likely to sky-rocket now. I don't mind, just as long as the properties aren't left empty.

I think there was some kind of misunderstanding, socialists were ruling the country from 1997 to 2002 (Jospin as Prime Minister).

The money was already parked around the world before the socialsts won, I mean isn't being rich all about being better than average not paying taxes.

No. Being rich is all about honesty, integrity and hard work.

You are all over the road. Are you disagreeing with the concept of the Laffer Curve (which was my argument) or are you saying that any new tax will be ineffective at taxing the upper-class and therefore just political posturing?

Nope, I am telling you the Rich do not bother to GTFO when the fiscal policy is already heavy. The proposed hikes would be peanuts (on a clean million from now to then there will be a slight bump of 30K euros). Given the fact that most of the Millionaires do have tax loopholes and that they will keep them, the lack of effect would come by the specific tax file of the individual, not the political posturing.

As for the *concept*. I am asking you a question based on the reality, not out of your imagination. Why do French High Earners stay in France despite a heavier fiscal policy. Answer me this
