    Unless it's a F-14 Tomcat dogfighting Mitsubishi A6M Zero's then quite frankly they are not Jolly Rogers.

    I always liked the F-14 in Jolly Rogers colors, but I liked those colors better when they were flying F-4s.

    When VF-84 was decommissioned in 1995 VF-103 dropped the name "Sluggers" and took on the name "Jolly Rogers". VF-103 is now VFA-103. They fly Super Hornets from the IKE.

    A U.S. Navy McDonnell F-4J-43-MC Phantom II (BuNo 157292) from Fighter Squadron VF-84 Jolly Rogers on the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42), in 1970.




    VF-84 Phantoms operate from the USS Independence CVA-62 circa 1960


    By the close of 1974, VF-84 was receiving the F-4N version of the Phantom. They took the F-4N on their final cruise aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt with the Phantom, starting on 3 January 1975, and ending on 16 July. The color scheme was brightened by the use of white radomes. (CVA-42)
