Necessity is the mother of invention.
Steel-enforced secure furniture will allow people to huddle in safety during rocket attacks.

Necessity is the mother of invention.
I thought I was going to see a picture of a steel sofa, high enough to crawl under in case of attack... I don't think of a bomb-shelter as "furniture" A table, chair, foot-rest, etc... But a bomb shelter is now furniture?
Nuke fridges?

Don't know about sofas because those tend to be moved around but a bed or a closet seem logical enough.
Secure areas/rooms can't be compared to 'classic' bomb shelters.

The astounding thing is that 75% of Israeli homes DO have some sort of shelter. Can’t think of any other nation that has, or needs such protection. And yet to much of the world the Israelis are the “bad guys”.“25 percent of Israeli homes do not have adequate protection - neither a bomb shelter or a protective room,” a senior Home Front Command officer explained. “This furniture could be the solution for these people.”
Very easily could have happened in the US during the 50's.ONly in Israel
And in Finland for some reason or other... Shelters for about 4 million people out of 5,3 million. Law required this for newly constructed buildings with over 600 m2 of space until 2010 and after that, for buildings over 1200 m2 of space.

(well, it seems so called "neutral countries" liked to build these shelters - interesting)
It's not mandatory on new building anymore in Switzerland since '10, but you get state funding/tax deduction if you do so the law changed pretty much nothing.
I got the feeling that this is also a very clever marketing pitch. Bomb-proof IKEAs, anyone?
