The issue is more with his whole attitude/outlook etc than the fact he teaches self defence. I'd wager the fact he's apparantly not a SEAL had something to do with it too.

Most US tourists/business visits are granted a visa. This guy was denied one for a specific reason.

In a general sense he would have been subject to a visa waiver system if he weren't there working but because he is he would have to get a visa.
