The training ship of the Spanish Armada SPS 'Juan Sebastian de Elcano' docked this morning at the port of Havana after 29 days of transoceanic navigation.
On May 4, after 23 days without seeing land, one crewman sighted the northern coast of Cuba, winning the award, "Rodrigo de Triana", the sailor who was the first to scream "¡Tierra!" (Land!) on the first Christopher Columbus trip to America. The same day, the ship held an emotional tribute to the fallen in the war of 1898, which was preceded by a conference on Cuba, who reviewed the naval battle of Santiago and the heroism of the crews of the squadron under Admiral Cervera .
The ship has made 74% of their voyage across the Atlantic on sail. The rest of the navigation was motor or mixed (sail-motor).
The vessel will depart from Havana on May 14 for New York, to participate in Navy Week and be integrated into the prestigious regatta "Opsail" along with other training ships and warships from different countries.
