Does it come with 1 forward and 5 reverse as all italian tanks?
Radpanzers were the rage in the 80s before the cold war ended.
This sort of vehicle is like a assault gun, it gives mobile firepower to wheeled units, but it is NOT at tank
just hope that it's never used against a MBT, Germans tried it during WW2, didn't work. you really can't fight a heavy armored vehicle with one armored to stop HM fire. put a big gun on anything and the crew get to believing that their invulnerable.

It's less about money saving and more of need of a wheeled assault gun now then to wait for a assault gun based on a new 25 ton platform of BTR named Boomerang.
Doubt it. They didn't with the Iveco LMV which failed the ballistic protection test and couldn't handle the terrain well. It's saving grace was good IED protection.
well actually the new centauro variant with the 120mm cannon can resist 25 mm cannon fire on all sides (or at least that is what iveco claims). The italian centauros fired their main weapon in iraq. Overall ive heard its a pretty good vehicle. haters gona hate
by the way, this is the latest version of Centauro, with new turret and hull with new armour (30mm proof on the front). There is also a "Centauro 2" on development

My only question is why Russia is looking at a foreign base vehicle , dont they have a variety of wheeled APC's that could be the base vehicle? would simplify logistics
Yes they do, the Bronyetransportyor series; specifically the BTR-80 model has a myriad of specialized versions from NBC recon, to Fire support to Command and Control.
The reason for this purchase is the same reason they bought the Italian LMVs; Evaluation: "What are the Strengths and weakness of this design?" "Can we incorporate improvements from this design to our own designs" "Will buying this AFV make more financial and tactical sense than making our own." etc.
May question is, is Russia going to get NATO compatible gear, which will then find it's way to China, and then be shooting back at us one day when they sell to their friends.
