That goes for all foreign elections, which are rarely covered until the final stretch before voters go to the polls. The Mexican general election is still a month and a half out. I expect it will get more coverage than a typical foreign election as it approaches. It's an important election both for Mexico and the region. The only mitigating factor, potentially, in this country's coverage of Mexico's election is that it coincides with the final months before the big dance in this country.
Im not Saying that PRI isn't corrupt, but even though in the past they cheated. The people benefited alot from the party in various ways even corruption in some forms benefits the people. Becuase they to belong to all of that.
You said that " 2006 and the years that followed, he did an awesome job at antagonizing PAN supporters and polirizing the country." What happend that year and years before the elections of 2006? The major networks were attacking him comparing him with Hugo Chavez, (And thats how I think you got that idea that he is like Hugo ) saying:" LOPEZ OBRADOR ES UN PELIGRO PARA MEXICO.", LOPEZ OBRADOR MIENTE CON DESCARA A MEXICO.","LOPEZ OBRADOR ES EL CANDIDATO DE LAS MENTIRAS.","SI LOPEZ OBRADOR GANA VA HABER DEVALUACION Y CRISIS." The majority of the propaganda came from PAN. that also goes against articulo 38 inciso b. Felipe Calderon himself said that the campaign of attack came from his party . During the 2006 eleciton former president FOX spend around 160 million dollars on advertising the Campaign of Felipe Calderon. Mexican Federal Law prohibits the intervention of the President to favor any political candidate. (and he did it publicaly ).
More evidence:You said that you were chosen back then to be in the voting center in Chihuahua, right? it just so happends that in Chihuahua district 8 there is video evidence that packages were open (violated if you may) but Chihuahua wasent the only state there were otheres. Just like you mention the PRI did :"people where removed from voter rosters, people voted multiple times, ballot boxes were stuffed, votes were bought, the dead voted, some voters voted many times." Days Before the election the journalist Carmen Aristegui discloses an internet page that contains "El banco de datos del padron electoral." inserting a password, gets accessed to Political Candidate Felipe Calderon. In search of names and last names, found that everyone was there in the list and available to the party PAN. Which also provided if the individual was either: "PRDista", "PANista", "PRIista",or undecided. IFE also contract the company of brother in Law of Felipe Calderon,( Diego Hildebrando Zavala). Elba Esther Gordillo Leader of the teacher's union, was active during election day favoring the PAN Candidate Felipe Calderon made some calls to PRI governors. Such as governor of Tamaulipas Eugenio Hernandez Flores to get the simpatizers of PRI to vote for PAN. El PREP close at 8 p.m. and under the rubric of inconsistencies around 11 million proceedings of presidential election. Votes that were not counted because of inconsistencies were 2 million 581 thousand 226. IFE disclose all of that (fact). Now lets check the numbers:one hundred and nine thousandrecordswhich onecan compare thenumberof ballots that were deposited in the ballot box against the number of ballots before the election and the number of ballots left over after the election. of these109,134 records, it appears thatin 16% ie 17.465of these records there were more ballots in the ballot box than ballots that were distributed by the polling booth officials to the voters. In 17 thousand ballot booths they found 800,000 extra ballots within the boxes. There wereanother 30%ie 32,758 had fewer ballots in the ballot box. This difference between received and leftovers. And the total number of ballots that were missing there was716.489.If you add these two numbers you have an error of a half million ballots that we do not know where they came from. EIther they arrived at the ballot box and they did not know where they came from or they where suppose to appear in the box and did not appear. Long story short in this matter is not like you say it went "they could not have done it better in Switzerland. All decision were made by 100% concensus from all the parties and everyone signed willingly in the end." there were major irregularities even when they counted them on july 5. But again if needed ill provide more info. which you your self can check. In Mexico you can be very critical including on television. But not at appropriate moment. At the appropriate time it is closed without question. And thats how cencership works. They're going to let us talk about the 2006 fraud when we're in 2014 and we are going to be a "democratic country." But now in the moment where everything is happening the media is close. And for me it wasent about that he or the party didnt win. It was about democracy it didnt matter who won but it did matter if he won by a democratic vote. But it seems that we haven left the PRI years behind it just got a little sophisticated.
Too bad Marcelo Ebrard is not running.
It's a very funny thing you know, the PRD picked Lopez Obrador instead of Ebrard by way of a poll taken by private companies. Lopez Obrador "won" (because he's been campaigning for more than six years) and Marcelo Ebrard had the political maturity to concede defeat and declare Lopez Obrador the winner. Marcelo Ebrard saves his image a modern, democratic and mature leftist politician, and saves himself for 2018. The funny thing is that Lopez Obrador claims that he doesn't believe in the polls, except when they favor him. Yes, it is too bad he's not running, because there was way more possibility that PAN supporters if faced with a third place finish and a PRI victory would have voted for Ebrard to keep the PRI from winning. As a panista, I would rather have all my teeth pulled out than to vote for Lopez Obrador.
They still cheat, and rob and lie. How many billions of pesos did the governor of Coahuila (Humberto Moreira) get in loans supposedly for his state by having his people falsify signatures and documents of the state legislature? 30 billion or 50 billion, when he had claimed that the state debt was just 300 million pesos? It's this mentality of thinking that corruption is all that bad that keeps us from progressing. Corruption should not be accepted in any way, and corrupt politicians should be put in jail for the rest of their lives, so too should those politicians or public officials that cooperate with organized crime. I don't agree with your acceptance of corruption, in the end it is all bad. During it's 71 year rule the PRI made corruption an acceptable form of live and permeated it through all levels of society. That culture continues to drag us down in every aspect, like for example education, where teachers refuse to be evaluated so their weaknesses can be identified.
Firts I started this thread to know what where the thoughts on the candidates, and why would they vote for them. However I also have a candidate in mind who I believe is best to lead the Country as President of Mexico. I am not affiliated with any group or Party, nor I have a prefence of a Party. I do however choose an Individual not the party.
"(because he's been campaigning for more than six years)" If your talking abut MORENA he didnt started it. MORENA was started by Mexican Intelectuals such as writers, filmmakers, theater directors, actors, plastic artist, people link with culture, and individuals; who support Obrador. I can provide names if you want.
I doubt that you read my last post, by emphasizing maturity to concede defeat. Another fact here during that election when Lopez Obrador "LOST" people actually apted to Armed rebellion, the percentage was 13% thats around 12 million Mexicans. But he did not aproved of this. what he did instead was more pacifistic. Ask for a recount and what did they only approved 9% of the votes will be revice ( what happend well besides the fact that it confirm major irregularities and that boxes envolopes were violated,it stop beign a recount for the votes and bacame a count for how many crimes were commiting.)
Is this a paradox? here you say about how corruption is bad cheeting is bad but then 2006 election there was all of that like I said:"it seems that we haven left the PRI years behind it just got a little sophisticated." And well I do agree with you corruption is bad, first we have to acknowledge that we are all susceptible to corruption. And corruption and stilling benefits the people in various ways, even stilling. (but its not look bad upon, because they dont think of it as bad) people who work at SEP IMSS etc. who take home small things such as pens pencils papers etc. for their children. People who feel intelligent to still cable electricity from their neighbor. People who lie on their finance statements to pay or not pay taxes. People who through trash on the streets and then later demand that the govt. to give maintenace to the drainage system. I can go on
