Interesting ! In France, use of rifle- or helmet-mounted NVGs is strictly forbidden, as it's considered as a "weapon of war" item. Civilians can only access the hunting ones you have to hold in the hand. Too bad... we're having a night game with my team this friday... Gonna be hard in the dark and with clouds...

What are the other countries' legislations regarding the civilian use of NVGs ?

Sweden, as far as I know, no restrictions. Probably for real hunting, but I don't know.

I've seen all kinds of NVG and NV-binoculars for sale in many swedish based shops and ePay-like sites.

No real restrictions here in Canada. I've seen everything from cheap 1G handhelds to 3G monoculars, although American stuff is pretty hard to get our hands on (but not impossible). There is a restriction on using them for hunting, you can't really use them unless it's for raccoon apparently.

In Poland having 3rd generation nvg is forbidden. But as far as I have heard and read it was possible to buy such nvg's in USA and get it delivered to Poland without any problems. Now it has probably changed due to new law in USA, that forbidden the sellers from shipping such equipment abroad.

Actually it's equipment of war, class II. So even with a class I licence (most handguns, SMG, assault rifles, etc...) you can't have any (it's not impossible to get a class II licence but the amount of paperwork and scrutiny is of another world, it's the licence allowing collection, mostly working military vehicles).

But that was the old regime. All the guns laws changed less than three month ago.

AFAIK there are no decree for the 2012 law out yet, so who knows NVGs might get legal to own with a simpler procedure (or more likely will simply be outlawed).

I'm hearing so many different stuff about NVs in France right now... The other day, I was told that Helmet-mounted NVGs or at least monocular NVs were legal, and that's just the weapon-mounted ones that stay forbidden...

Ah, whatever... not like I had the money for this stuff !
