    When i played Arma before
"Why are you playing that? it looks to slow and tedious to have fun"
    Now with DayZ
"DUDE! This is so immersive, why am i only hearing about it now"

Its been great publicity for BI especially with Arma3 on the horizon.
I wonder if we will see an Arma3 DayZ mod on or near release?

I'm sick and tired of the zombie crazy too, however this is the first time a game gets it right(Well Urban Dead got it right too).

Played on the Chicago servers this evening. Due to the ingame calender the moon rises after midnight, which means servers are pitch black for 5 hours in primetime. Unless you're in a big group, it's not too safe to move using flashlights, flares and chemlights. We were 6 people down the east coast and spotted a bandit in the dark, we lit the whole area up with close to 40 flares and brought a little justive back into the old world. When I think back, I pittied him. Poor guy.

For an alpha build this has provided alot of hours of fun.

BTW, DayZ is getting official support from BI and will be included in the next official patch.

Maybe it has something to do with being in alpha and being so insanely popular, servers getting bombrushed by people connectiing, disconnecting and reconnecting.

I am sick of the zombie craze too, but after playing this game I realised that I am just sick of all the teenage retards going "omg what woud you do if zombies attakc came nawo omg M16 flametrhrower aeeesommeeeemms".

This mod is actually very much fun, but one of its biggest advantages is also its biggest disadvantages:

    It runs on ARMA2.

Sure the open world setting is great, the graphics good and it runs smooth BUT it got soooo many little problems that make you hate this game/mod:

    1. The gear system is bull**** - You will encounter losing items because that system sucks ass. Oh and also have fun finding your backpack somewhere within half a kilometer where you dropped it because it seems to just find a random place to drop it. It's slow, ****ty and glitchy.

    2. Indoors and ladders are deathtraps. Especially if there is another player and/or zombie involved. This game is simply glitchy as hell. For example you go up a ladder and as soon as you are on the roof your character switches into his standing pose you fall back down on the ground, and there is nothing you can do. This happens randomly as I experienced. You can just hope you don't instantly die and just brake a bone.

This can also happen sometimes on stairs, where your character will suddenly "slip" and fall down the stairs, this can also result in damage. The stairs are horrible too.

Roofs are glitchy too, you better don't get close anywhere near the edge.

Indoors you can be blocked by the smallest things on the ground, and jumping is another glitchy thing to do.

    3. The zombies act retarded. Another ARMA2 feature that is AI. The zombies in this mod are pretty fast, which makes it hard to hit them. Which is good. But the AI of ARMA2 and the way it chooses paths to run is simply retarded. Alot of zombies you attract you won't kill from a distance, but rather while they bite your face.

Also zombies are half-ghosts that are able to glitch through closed doors, so don't think you are safe when you close a door behind you.

Oh and also another tip: Do never go swimming when you are holding your gun. Thanks to the awesome engine your gun will just drop on the floor of the ocean where you begin to swim.

Now people are gonna say: "But man, it's just a Alpha !" - That is true but I doubt they are gonna rewrite the entire ARMA2 sourcecode to fix these problems. These are simply problems that engine has.

All these problems are not exclusive to the mod, but to ARMA.

ARMA2 is the best game to make screenshots of mega awesome action scenarios that LOOK awesome, but are horrible to play. Just look at the awesome pictures of chinooks hovering over some house taking in a group of soldiers: Now try to do something like that in the game with the ARMA2 AI without the helicopter blowing up or people falling down the roof like lemmings.

That being said my two favorite mods that I usually play are ARMA2 mods.

Ingame lunar cycle. At the moment it gets dark around 19.15 and the moon rises at 01.00, which means you're legally blind for six hours.

Arma 2 is a very "clunky" game. The trick to making it awesome is to play with other people who can fly that chinook like a real pilot and get you close to a rooftop, etc.

Day Z is fun, but it got old pretty fast for me. It'd be nice if they eventually added some kind of objective system or goals, such as clearing areas of zombies, getting rewarding for joining up with people, etc. I'd also like to see the side chat removed so you can only type to people who are close by. If servers eventually moved to the ACRE radio system that would be cool, where you had real 3d voices that could yell, whisper, and use radios with various channels.

I only played a few hours, but the nights I experience could be easily made playable by simply turning up the gamma and brightness.

Or is there a time where it's really pitch black ?

But even then you got the glitchy, clunky or whateverness of the game/engine. Just try to get up on a ladder with a few guys... If they are too close they will simply fall down. As a example.

Yeah, I had a scary moment with the local voice chat. I was clearing out a barn in the woods, thinking that I was pretty much alone because it was away from any bigger city. When I suddenly saw a name flash up that was on local voice chat...

Objectives would be great, but what I would really like to see is some kind of constant "safe" that let's you bunker atleast a few items that get saved.

How does it work with the tents ? You find them, or parts to build them ? And when you build them do they stay or vanish after disconnect ? Anyone know ?

It's Alpha...and a mod, there will be bugs...just go to the DayZ forum, and post them. Remember Counter Strike? Get in on the ground floor and make it a better game.
