Political correctness is running mad when gender or immigration background are held in higher regards than a politician's professional qualification.
http://www.france24.com/en/20120517-...men-minoritiesFrench President François Hollande's new 34-member cabinet has been lauded for having 17 women ministers, the same number as men. Here's a look at some of the other eye-catching figures in France’s freshly-appointed ministerial club.

It's kind of funny to impute a misogynist attitude to me, seeing my posting history on this board voicing support for female soldiers in combat assignments and all that... you witless idiot.
I don't think that work experience in the certain portfolio is a must for a minister. However, as a Frenchman I'd certainly be worried if my new Prime Minister praised the politically "correct" selection of his new cabinet more than his ministers' qualifications.
Maybe because the ministers´qualifications is a given?
Not according to what I gather from the French press. Too many newcomers, too many others who seemingly just were awarded with a post in recognition of their efforts during Mr. Hollande's bid for presidency.
On another note, it's kind of funny how eagerly Mr. Ayrault praised the pay cuts the cabinet imposed upon itself... while having one of the most extensive cabinets there is in the European Union.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, minister of defence - any idea how he will act?
I wish France the best of luck, but I hope the construct of socialism stays away from my country of 300+ million.
On a different note, he has a lot of good looking people working for him!
That's the point I tried to direct attention to. Few European administrations have such extensive cabinets and even Germany has only 15 ministries. It's kind of silly to applause yourself for self-imposed pay cuts when you've just raised the number of pay receivers. Neither will Hollande introduce socialism in France, nor is most of the stuff you Americans call "socialist", in fact, socialism. Trust my words for I've seen it.
Too many ministers, too much waste of money in the name of politics as usual.
The rebranding of some of the ministries are ridiculous: minister of the "productive recovery" instead of "industry" is laughable. Oh and minister for "territorial equality" is great. I'm not sure this ministry is a replacement for anything that existed, it's just the gift to the green party. IMO Hollande, as someone who lacks the authority Sarkozy had on his political camp, needs to give a bone to everyone.
actually, doesn't that kind of fit right in with his ideology? It's kind of silly to applause yourself for self-imposed pay cuts when you've just raised the number of pay receivers.
Compared to Sarkozy's first government, there are more people altogether and a significant increase in expenditures.
But with Sarkozy or Hollande, I really wonder if you need that many people to run the country. One of my former bosses told me that once you create a position in a company, the person who gets it fills up his day and can actually be busy. But is the guy or gal's "busyness" of any use to the others?
