Default Effort to bring tankers to Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington's entire congressional delegation has signed a letter asking the Air Force to select Spokane's Fairchild Air Force Base as the home for new air tankers.
The Spokane base is already home to aging KC-135 air tankers.
The letter was spearheaded by Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers. They want the new KC-46A tankers to be built by Boeing to be based in Spokane.
They say Fairchild is well-positioned for the nation's military needs, and is a popular posting within the Air Force.

Well - being popular is the most important criteria of course for base selection!

This would be awesome and coincides with a town hall meeting General Wyatt had with us last month. He had mentioned getting the KC-46 stationed here and I think it would be a great opportunity to keep WA on the forefront of things for both the Guard and AD.

NYS is too. He has visited 4 times upstate and NYC visits too. But, Republicans have more control over military spending.

I guess you will soon get to say "All your base are belong to us."

No, King and Pierce Counties (the Seattle Tacoma metro area) are Obama supporters. Unfortunately, they are also more than 50% of the population.

I wish that were true. In fact, Obama won Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, Callam, Gray's Harbor, Pacific, Spokane and Whitman Counties, along with King and Pierce. He won most of them by a wide margin.

Spokane County was one of the few places where Obama barely squeaked by; Obama 50%, McCain 48%.

He won't squeak by again if he doesnt. Really doesn't matter though, Seattle and the surrounding areas control the vote and they are drones.

The last time Washington gave its electoral votes to a Repub candidate was 1984, to Ronald Reagan. Obama would have to lose a lot of ground politically by November to lose Washington state.

Why not? Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is a short drive away, and is absolutely beautiful. The weather in Spokane is generally pretty mild. The summers are nice; low humidity. The winters are not very harsh or long. There is good hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, whitewater rafting and kayaking nearby. There is a nice riverfront walk with lots of cool shops and restaurants. The nightlife is not exactly New York City, but neither is it Bumfvck, Iowa. I would not mind living there.
