Well - being popular is the most important criteria of course for base selection!
SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington's entire congressional delegation has signed a letter asking the Air Force to select Spokane's Fairchild Air Force Base as the home for new air tankers.
The Spokane base is already home to aging KC-135 air tankers.
The letter was spearheaded by Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers. They want the new KC-46A tankers to be built by Boeing to be based in Spokane.
They say Fairchild is well-positioned for the nation's military needs, and is a popular posting within the Air Force.

Washington state is a huge Obama supporter and userally gets what they want.
This would be awesome and coincides with a town hall meeting General Wyatt had with us last month. He had mentioned getting the KC-46 stationed here and I think it would be a great opportunity to keep WA on the forefront of things for both the Guard and AD.
I wish that were true. In fact, Obama won Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, Callam, Gray's Harbor, Pacific, Spokane and Whitman Counties, along with King and Pierce. He won most of them by a wide margin.

Pardon my ignorance....but really?
Why not? Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is a short drive away, and is absolutely beautiful. The weather in Spokane is generally pretty mild. The summers are nice; low humidity. The winters are not very harsh or long. There is good hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, whitewater rafting and kayaking nearby. There is a nice riverfront walk with lots of cool shops and restaurants. The nightlife is not exactly New York City, but neither is it Bumfvck, Iowa. I would not mind living there.
