Default The GOP's sad infatuation with Rev. Jeremiah Wright

(CNN) -- Shortly after President Barack Obama was inaugurated, he said that his re-election effort will be judged largely on the economy.

The overall unemployment rate is above 8%; fewer than 150,000 jobs were created the last month; student loan debt has hit $1 trillion; consumer personal credit card debt is on the rise; gas prices look like a yo-yo; the housing industry continues to be stuck in the mud; and Americans still are unsure what the future holds economically.

For Mitt Romney's team, that should look like fertile ground to lay a serious line of attack against the incumbent president, especially in hard hit states like Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Nevada.

Yet for a band of GOP strategists, they somehow think trying to replay a bunch of old sermons by the president's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, will result in electoral gold.

    Sounds more like fool's gold.

When I opened up Thursday's New York Times and saw a story at the top of the page about a proposal calling on Chicago billionaire Joe Ricketts to spend upwards of $10 million on a vicious attack on Obama with Wright at the center of it, I frankly laughed.

In fact, even President Reagan came to mind and one of the all-time classic debate lines he used on Walter Mondale: "There you go again."

It's as if the butt-whippin' the GOP got in 2008 wasn't enough. Now they want to try to go to the well a second time.

    D-U-M-B.

When Sen. John McCain declared tying Obama to Wright was off limits in 2008, GOP stalwarts seethed, angry that they couldn't portray the then-senator as an acolyte of someone they considered to be a crazed, deranged pastor who hated America.

Wow. Making sure people know about Barry's past associations is "sad" but Mitt cutting hair half a century ago is now the gold standard?

I hope the GOP continues to go with Rev. Wright, the birthcertificate issue, with any of those non-issues. For most people, it doesn't matter. It's jobs and the economy. The more they can bring that up, the better. It paints them as the crazies...that many people think they are.

Yeah, and I hope the Democrats keep up with the "GOP wants to get in your vag", "business is bad", and any other circus act they can come up with. The only people buying Barry's nonsense are his sycophants. Everybody else is worried about the economy.

Uhmm, who is pushing the the Wright story? Barry and his sycophants? It seems GOP is worried about Wright, because it shows character deficiency or some ****. Whatever. Keep pushing it. More $$$ spent on him, means less money spent on economy, Wall Street influence, NDAA bill and all kinds of other stuff he did or didn't do. Keep up the Wright attacks. As I said, the more the merrier.

GOP does want to get into your vag. http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/pro...-examinations/

and between you and your physician, into your bedroom, etc. etc.

So who is bring up Rev. Wright? CG51, I did not know you where a member of the GOP. The counter political attack has to take place after the attack, not before.

LD answered you. There is a thing called time-line. There is nothing wrong with being a day late or a dollar short. The current "Rev. Wright" news is as LD said.

The Repubs are going to milk every opportunity the can get to bring Obama down, as they should being the established opposition. Rev. Wright is a bit peeved and miffed about Barry nowadays, thought the Pres would do more for the working class Democratic core and the black community in particular. Thought he'd come to his church more often too lol, I bet he's saying to Obama "Son im Disappoint" haha.

The Repubs on their part shouldnt press the Rev. Wright issue too much though. They should focus like a laser beam on the fundamental issues affecting the American people at this time. Obama still has a big chance to win in November.

    Right, right, right.

Because we all know that a GOP president would've just made history vanish. On that day in 2009, when McCain took his oath, there would've been no recession, no housing bubble would've burst, no banking collapse. It would've all stopped. Of course. No unemployement. Nothing. It would've all just...stopped. Right.

Or because Joe Ricketts was/is willing to spend 10 million USD for his Anti-Obama campain?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/17/us...2&pagewanted=1

    http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...-document.html

This has nothing to do with the alleged bribe.

I do understand the concept of time-line.

The bribe story was beginning of May 2012, May 6th 2012?

The paper of Joe Ricketts is labled May 2012. There is no chance in hell, that they started their campain after the bribe-story hit news. That campain has been worked on for months, the story boards, the name of the director and especially no mentioning at all of the bribe-story is evidence enough.
