Default AH-1 Cobra goes down while filming a Top Gear stunt

Was filming a stunt against a Chevy ZR-1 sports car. The stunt was proto-typical. Both start at the starting line, race down the track. But the trick was at the end, make a U turn and come back. First to finish across the original starting line wins.

Everything went off without a hitch. Both the car and the Chopper made through the U turn. But then the chopper crashed afterwards, probably because the pilot was pushing it too hard and stalled the gunship....Fortunately, it was flying too low and the pilot survived teh crash. Here is a series of photos documenting the whole entire incident.

Damn shame about the bird, I love that chopper. Thankfully the pilot is ok, though I wonder if he'll be allowed to wax his CO's car after this public disaster.

From what I understand, this isn't a military bird. Also, it wasn't a 'stall' but it was a main drive shaft failure meaning the engine was still running, but not turning the rotor.

    It could be many things.
Normally there's a "boom"-sound when the axle fails.. Also, a clear indication of main rotor drive failure is the exaggerated cone-shaped rotor-disc.. hard to see here. It propably didn't have sufficient time to manifest..
It could also be "Settling with power" where the rotor blades basicly generates a ring vortex and re-uses already used air.. that would ruin your day... In that altitute, you would have to over-torque the drivetrain to overcome it..

edit: yay, my first post.. (lost the password and email on my old account so had to make a new..)

Looks to be private as it's not a Super cobra.

Most of the chopper looks to still be intact, from the aftermath parts it looks like it landed on it's side. So it's not a surprise he lived

    Ummm..
There's so much wrong with your post that it literally gave me a headache.
The douche pilot merely failed to pull out of a dive soon enough.
