I use an army surplus british bergen and like it.
I believe there are those in solid green also, not only camo.
Edit: Hmm... Just checked, 3000 cu in = 50 liters, so a bergen of 85-125 liters is a bit over the scale...

You might want to check out that review as well:
How much weight are you trying to ruck? If you're just messing around with 45-50lbs, I have experience with a 38L Osprey Kestrel I've taken on a couple backpacking trips. Looks civilian because it is and was comfortable even though I overloaded the pack. I think I got it for like $110. I think they make a size bigger that might of be some interest. It wasn't out when I bought the pack, wish it was.
Why all the ALICE pack hate? I loved mine. You just need to add some fastex buckles to the cinch straps and get a beefier waist belt. I used Kifaru packs overseas, but stateside the ALICE couldn't be beat.
I second BrianT's recommendation for an Osprey pack. They are relatively cheap and will last you a good while.
I once tried a 3-day pack of some 50 liters. As it is short and extends backwards, however packing and repacking it, the point of gravity was way too back and it was really **** to carry, a real veshmeshok (suffering pack)...
Alby has batty confused with Rhino....... Who is Canadian.
