    I believe what is meant here that it had a roof.

    Although I am surprised as well that that is new. I always assumed it had one.
    I thought it was supposed to be a temple or something.

    I could see where some confusion could arise. Connotation versus denotation.

    I think the author is asserting that the large stone elements of Stonhenge you see now are only the remnants of a larger structure that including timber framing elements and a roof.

    The Romans may have utilised it but they didn't design or construct it.
    They'll be a certain quantity of latter day archaeology lying around but there is still no proof of a roof.

    We'll never know for certain until someone comes up with a Dr Who episode in which he arrives in the TARDIS and goes for a stroll halfway through the build.

    You serious? The Romans hang around the place cause they had made a camp on the nearby iron age hilltop fortress
