What type of scope would you put on your mini-14?

I just bought a new ruger mini-14 in .223 tactical rifle in stainless. I am trying to decide on what type of scope I should put on it. ACOG, Red Dot, reflex, or regular old fashion optical scope. Any, hints, ideas, or suggestions?

Distance you plan to shoot it at helps dictate your options. Type of shooting as well. Plan on snap shooting? a red dot, or reflex will be better than a standard telescope sight. an ACOG would have to be forward of the chamber no? of you want a traditional scope what about Long eye relief versions like a scout sight?

I shot a Mini recently with a red dot installed. Since I rarely shoot my Mini past a hundred meters I think I might slap one on my rifle as well.

x2. People generally buy optics for two advantages: Quick target acquisition, and increased accuracy via magnification. Some, like an Eotech or Aimpoint, focus on getting a quick, reasonably accurate shot off. Others, like traditional scopes and ACOGs, will give the shooter an advantage for precision shooting at distance.

You gotta figure out what you want, and which will best fit your needs.

Just stay away from the cheap Chi-com ripoffs like NCStar, etc. You'll likely just have to replace it after a few months, and you won't want it quitting on you at the worst time.

Honestly? I wouldn't. If it doesn't have it already, I would put some nice peep sights on it. But I am weird and prefer irons to most different kinds of optics except for very long distance (500+ yards). But if you insist.....
ACOGs are a overrated heavy pieces of **** in my opinion. I recently shot an eotech and found it easy and effective enough. I would definitely recommend it over the ACOG.
If you want longer distance, a 4x power scope maybe? I would think something this would do nicely: http://www.burrisoptics.com/xtrtactical1.html

Shooting with Iron Sights is more fun imho, so I guess it just depends on what you plan on using it for...

What do you primarily want to use your mini 14 for? In general, if you plan on shooting no more that 300 meters I'd just stick with ironsights or get a red dot. Anything further an ACOG or scope would be a better investment.
