Default Lawsuits over ad-skipping TV box

A legal row has erupted in the US over a set-top box that lets viewers skip over adverts in recorded TV shows.
Three US TV broadcasters, Fox, NBC and CBS, have sued the maker of the device, Dish Network, in a bid to ensure viewers see ads.

    Un-freaking-believable ....

Disguise it as a copyright crusade if you want, it´s all about making sure you´re shelled by ads you don´t want to see.

What´s next, suing me for taking a p** during commercials instead of remaining sit watching endless buy-my-cr*p ads ?

I truly hope they get a serious dissapointment at court.

Funny I've had this ability - from DISH - for so many years now that I never see TV ads at home. DISH ships a (pretty nice) DVR system with their setups, and the skip button works very well, in fact so well that it is worn out on one of the remotes. Yes it is "manual" but get real, what do they think it is used for ?

Dish is screwed. The MPAA/marketers will squash them if not via the courts but through other means they’ve used to eliminate previous contenders to advert free viewing.

Speaking of DVR FFWD, I’ve read marketing industry rants about how they need to disable that feature during adverts.

Luckily for everyone, advert free streaming and offline storage are available and a growing industry. That is until the mass marketing twerp’s corrupt that venue.

Dont most/all DVRs have a fast forward/backwards button? Add Time Warner and AT&T to the defendant list too.

Or make better ads like the Max Payne 3 ones

They should start with NOT airing ads with maximum loudness for a change. Then we might start talking, until then - FCK 'EM, and hard.

(not that I watch TV anyway, but it's getting this sht on Youtube too)

Loud commercial are f*cking annoying, although here in Canada starting in I believe September the government is going to require shows and commercials to be broadcast at the same volume

Good point. TV was free when I was a kid. Three channels plus PBS and we had an antenna.Ghosts and wavy lines. Now there are a whole lot more channels and the DVR thingee but, it is $180 bucks a month! Since we have to pay they should have dropped all the adverts!

Adverts are one of the main reasons why I stopped watching telly. Fortunatelly law stimulates the loudness of commercials (can´t be louder than movies and shows), however not their lenght in private medias what results in 90 minutes movie starting at 8pm ending at 10:15. Not even mentioning that they recently started pushing 5min commercial breaks even during news (between local and foreign section). Bloody ridiculous.
