Default Norway, US and Russia prepare joint naval drills

The exercise will start from Bodø in Northern Norway on August 18. The Russian side will participate in the exercises with the same vessel as in POMOR-2012, the destroyer “Admiral Chabanenko”. Norway will have the frigate “Nordkapp” and the US navy will come with a destroyer of the Arleigh Burke class.
The exercises will also include use of Russian Su-33 jet fighters and Ka-27 helicopters, American Sea Hawk helicopters and Norwegian F-16 jet fighters and Orion surveillance planes, the Russian Defense Ministry’s web site reads.

    Excellent news!

The source is not very good when it comes to specifics though; Norway has no frigate named "Nordkapp", however we do have an OPV named "Nordkapp": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordkap..._patrol_vessel

And again Admiral Chabanenko! it's the most busiest Ru north sea fleet warship. Damn that Udaloy-II class destroyer, it's almost every time sea worthy.

I think this is almost a yearly exercise. Here is Admiral Levchenko and Severomorsk together with Hué City in Stavanger in 2005.

Final planning conference of the Northern Eagle 2012 joint naval exercise finished in Murmansk. Representatives of Russian, Norwegian, and US navies agreed upon terms of the exercise and participating forces.

Crews of destroyer Admiral Chabanenko (Russian Navy), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer (US Navy), and patrol ship Nordkapp (Norwegian Coast Guard) will meet on Aug 18, 2012 in Norwegian port Bodø prior to the exercise opening. Russian Su-33 fighters, a Ka-27PS helicopter, and American Sea Hawk helicopters will be involved in the active phase. Norwegian Air Force will delegate F-16 fighters and Orion patrol aircraft.

As was agreed upon in Murmansk, active phase of the Northern Eagle 2012 exercise will certainly contain joint antiaircraft drills, repelling attacks of small-size fast vessels, rendering help to a ship in distress, rescuing people overboard, joint maneuvering, and communication drills.

Taking place in Arctic latitudes, the Northern Eagle joint naval exercise is going to be held for the fourth time. Its traditional objective is to practice cooperation amid foreign navies in counter-terror, anti-piracy, and rescue operations. In 2008, the exercise was attended by Russian destroyer Severomorsk, American frigate USS Elrod, and two Norwegian patrol ships Senja and Nordkapp.
