Thread: Honors student jailed for missing class...

  1. #1

Default Honors student jailed for missing class...

...because she's working 2 jobs to support her younger sister after their parents abandoned them and still manages to get excellent grades.

    http://www.khou.com/news/local/Honor...153847275.html

“If you let one (truant student) run loose, what are you gonna’ do with the rest of ‘em? Let them go too?” Judge Moriarty asked.
I had no idea working 2 jobs to support your family counted as "running loose."

There's probably more to the story. I'd really like to know if the parents will be held accountable here. But as it is now, it looks like a young woman is being punished for being responsible and self reliant...and making other people look lazy.

The worst criminal scum are the tardy ones. Good job, judge. You're a hero, IMO.

Good job by the judge. This little stay in prison is going to bring her back on track!

    That judge is a idiot.

That should teach her! In all honesty, as long as she is passing her grades I don't see why the judge should be an obnoxious Judge Judy type. Perhaps they could help her to study at home instead?

What is this world coming to? It's news to me that someone could work so hard to be rewarded in such a manner...

Going to class is not equivalent, nor any significant correlation to getting good grades. Judge should throw himself in jail for wasting everybody's time.

What the... is this even real life? You reward hard-working, sacrifice and other great human values with that crap?

It was only a 24 hour sentence. She's back on the streets, runnin' loose again!

Hell the American education system is down the drain.

Why not speed up the process by punishing the smart students?
