Default not to be missed military museum in US ?

I'm traveling for a month in the US this summer.

I can't visit all the museums, so would there be some " absolutely not to be missed museum/military related places" ?

Try the National Museum of the Marine Corps (http://www.usmcmuseum.com/index.asp) in Virginia.

    National Infantry Museum http://www.nationalinfantrymuseum.com/

The USS Yorktown is also a very good museum ship if you are in the south east.

If you're anywhere near Dayton Ohio, then a day-long stop at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum is a must. It is currently the largest and best displayed military aviation museum in the world. If you like military aircraft, you will never regret a visit here.

Wash D.C. of course has many you may wish to consider. If you find yourself on the road in the Eastern part of the U.S., you may want to look up civil was sites, *****sburg; Antietam; Shiloh; etc. If in the West you may wish to stop look into Western expansion - forts; railroads; cattle drives; wagon trains; etc., or look at some of the state museums where you are traveling, usually in the capitals.

    Have a good trip.....take pics....post!

Big Air Force museum in Dayton Ohio. I haven't been there but a friend who has said it took him three days to take it all in.

Smithsonian is the best place to start. However, if you're on the west coast consider the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in Oregon. It isn't huge but it has the "Spruce Goose", its own vineyard, and a bar.

I visited the Midway last summer. I planned 2 hours for it but ended up spending the whole day there. Worth every single second of it. And it's in the middle of a big city, so you don't need to drive all the way to some random place like Quantico just to see a really nice museum.

I second that, it's a fantastic museum. Live here and I would still see it again and again.

If you're in Chicago, the 1st Infantry Division museum (http://www.cantigny.org/museums/firstdivision.aspx) is excellent, and the U-505 at the Museum of Science and Industry downtown (http://www.msichicago.org/whats-here/exhibits/u-505/) is not to be missed either.

I didn't mind it, but somehow was expecting more. NO is great to visit, so works in well. Smithsonians are probably the best start as others have said.
