Default Hans Rosling: Religions and babies

Very interesting video. Hans Rosling argues in this presentation that the global population is destined to stay at ten billion. Also he shows how the number of babies people are having have decreased in Christian and Muslim countries alike, the average is around two babies. Mainly women in African nations, both Christian and Muslim, still get many babies. According to him we should adapt the world's needs to that of ten billion people.

I am not sure if his theory is right but I like how the trends are similar in many countries regardless of their religion. Also his software for graphs is really awesome.

It's not news that there's a correlation between education and number of kids.

Thanks for that map, it does quite correspond with what Rosling said.

I've known that for years... Mexico, Maghreb, Middle-East, beside some Sub-Saharan countries the birthrates of almost every nation in the World is decreasing bellow the replacement level.

7 billions is already too much. I'm glad the global population will peak at 10 billions and then largely decrease. We don't need an overcrowded Earth.

It seems like wishful thinking. But, one can hope.

And that explains that the *least* developed countries produce the most babies how?

You could fit the entire population of the world into Texas and have a pretty good pop density still

As the years pass, we grow in technology too. More resources are always found when more people need them, time and time again. New inventions will take the place of old. New tools to live will be found. We will build up as much as we build out. We will grow more crops in even less space, with less resources, and less time.

That's a naively optimistic deterministic vision of the future.

Versus the doom and gloom of the decades past.

Lets see, according to predictions we were supposed to Lose to the USSR, and have an Ice Age back in 1977

And they werent even sure how Ferret Face would leave.....
