I have this series on Blu-Ray.

Overall, it's a good documentary. The only thing I didn't like was the sound effects they added to the footage.
I had seen some of the footage before and the original sound was just fine..

I do find it a little annoying when they digitally remaster the sounds. Now, every war documentary sounds like the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan.

I was reading about the Grunts and Marines during that time and how the M-16 we just unreliable due to the fact no one thought to clean them enough. They would bugger up constantly.

The early versions of the M16 didn't have chrome lined chambers and bores, the DOD used a different kind of powder than that recommended by Gene Stoner (the DOD powder burned dirtier) and the troops were specifically told that they didn't need cleaning. Any firearm will be unreliable if it is never cleaned or lubricated, and the hot humid environment of a jungle makes it even worse - steel parts can start to develop rust in a day or less unless kept clean and oiled.

What MOD James says....and more on the M16 problems if you'd care to read here -

EDIT: I just noted the date on the vid, 64-65, so the vid link, somewhat later, may not be germane. Sorry.

We I saw the title, I thought it's gonna be some kind of HD video about the country.

It's really sad that for many people, Vietnam is not a country but a war.

Watched the whole series. Impressive. What is interesting to me is the complete lack or mention of MyLai, or Agent orange. Could have easily been inserted, using very few seconds to convey the chronological order of events in Vietnam. Regardless, great documentary.
