No, I translated those - the poster literally wrote that - there are probably rumors that the IR flares are some kind of jamming devices.

I posed those comments to relay the general feel of the situation by the common folk - not to be ripped apart and analyzed like they were military field reports. Ofc that they write dumb stuff (like that helicopter protection). Rumors and statements like that usually mean that people perceive the whole situation as an aggression/oppression, and are clinging to anything they can to prove their point.

Dumb or not, those comments give great insight into the current situation.

Perhaps IR jammers disturb the CCDs of digital cameras as a unwanted side effect?
As I never tried to take a picture of a helicopter with its IR jammer on I don' tknow.

    Speedy recovery to the wounded.

It's an interesting idea but I see the idea of an IR jammer being able to stop a camera taking a visual image. Probably just a load of bull.

Speedy recovery to the wounded German soldiers.

Imo, if a long term solution to this problem is not found soon, an escalation is inevitable.
Might be a minor escalation but I dont see anyone gaining from a full blown conflict. Hopefully they lay off barricades and go back to their ordinary lives.

Doubtful. I remember a lot of retarded rumors during the '99 bombings. Anything is possible.

Hopefully, but when a group perceives their ordinary lives hindered, they can't just "return" to it. A happy man does not open fire on someone else, and does not block the roads to keep someone out.

Thinking nothing bad can come of it, and only taking your side into account is a dangerous thing to do.

you can see part of IR spectrum on some cameras at least - like if you film a IR remote control, you could see the IR diode flash on video while you can't see it with the naked eye. I think it could be possible that a high powered IR jammer has a similar effect on the camera like pointing it at a bright light source or something.

    Whatever!

Cijelo selo Rudare je blokirano, građani su u svojim kućama, a helikopteri neprekidno nadlijeću područje i izbacuju infracrvene mamce, čime se sprečavaju mogući napadi raketama sa zemlje.

    Google Translate just for you

The entire village of miners is blocked, the citizens in their homes, and helicopters constantly fly over the area and throw the infrared bait, thus preventing a possible missile attacks from the ground.

It was befor I think, but Nikolic statement has nothing to do with KFORs action since its nothing new coming from a Serbian leader. EU/NATO waited until the Serbian elections were finished until moving to the next phase and get the north into the right direction, they have no plans on redrawing any new borders since it wont stop with Kosovo and all neighbors agree on that point. Northern part of Kosovo will always be a headache for Prishtina and for that the Government of Kosovo will soon come out with a new plan how to integrate them and how they can manage their lives without interfering of Prishtina except when the sovereignty of Kosovo comes in question, much what Ahtisaari-plan was all about.

The situation is now calm and the barricade was removed, KFOR is now returning back to their bases. It could all have gone smoothly without any incidents but hey this is the Balkans.

Local municipal leaders in northern Kosovo - where Serbs are the majority that does not recognize the authority of the Kosovo Albanian government in Priština - met on Friday to consider the situation. Kosovska Mitrovica Mayor Krstimir Pantić announced after the meeting that it was decided to once again prevent free movement of KFOR and all other international missions.

"International missions have started their showdown with Serbs, and in order to protect ourselves, we must defend ourselves with barricades. Kosovska Mitrovica residents have been completely blocked by KFOR's operation that severed all communication with central Serbia. For as long as that persists, the citizens will not allow KFOR and EULEX to move freely. We expect the same decision to be made by three other municipalities (in northern Kosovo)," said Pantić.

The mayor noted that Serbs did not wish for conflicts, but were instead trying to solve problems peacefully, and that it was obvious that a part of the international community that supports ethnic Albanians was attempting to provoke Serbs and cause clashes in order to obtain a justification for their actions.

Speedy recovery to German allies, I hope someone will finally understand how it's important to deal with Serbian terror groups in North Kosovo and stop the anarchy and mafia there. The same thing happened in Croatia in 91, barricades , killing Croatian police officers and we know how it finished at the end...I hope the same thing will not happen in Kosovo. Support to KFOR and Kosovo's Police forces to deal with it and make peace and prosperity there.

Btw, I need informations, where there maybe some shoots at Croatian helicopter mi-171 in KFOR service ?
    ?
