US Marine dependents playing on a base playground, stop when Colors is playing. Unnecessary for them to do what their parents have to do, but they appear to do a good job trying. Moto none the less.
When I was a lad and we were stationed at Fort Lewis or Fort McPherson, I sure as hell stopped whatever I was doing when Retreat (I think that was it at 1700 hrs) came on. I recall being at the pool and being pushed into the pool by some jackass while doing our best to stand at attention.
I rarely make my way onto post these days, but it is still an honor to stop what I am doing when there and render the proper respect when there and the timing is correct. Nothing galls me more than to see jackasses driving by everyone else standing outside their vehicles, trying to act oblivious to the matter.
I expect my boys to hide in the nearest Porto-sh1tter whenever they hear Colors.
On Bragg, it's standard for a driver to halt in the lane (there's sufficient room for vehicle to get by, if they guide around....but it highlights the ****heads), if they see the colors going down (or up). Makes some other drivers with poor SA very angry (which makes the rest of us very amused).
