Since I'm not pro, I must tackle your question from a mathematical POV.
If 30 equals 28, then 28 equals 26,1333333333....
So go with the 26![]()
Ok, we were all taught to load our 30 round M16 mags to 28 to improve reliability. Now, Rangerplates turn 30 rounders into 28 rounders, so shouldn't you then load a Rangerplate equipped mag to 26?
Thanks.

There are old habits that are around and nobody questions them, even with the arrival of new equipment. Load it 30, see if it seats easily enough with the bolt being forward, if it doesn't load it 29 and see again, that should be good.
Inspect all your magazines routinely for wear and tear, as long as it is intact there's no reason to worry, and exchange the magazines when you either get feeding issues from them or you see visible deformation, cracks or other damage.
Load 30 round magazines to 30 rounds, and forget that nonsense.
(EDIT) I'm out of 5.56mm ammo currently but as soon as I get some I'll dig up one of my old USGI mags with a "ranger plate" on it to test capacity. I haven't used those in years but I don't remember having issues when trying to load 30 rounds.

I've never found that rule to be realistic over the past several years. Load the magazine to 30 like they are designed for, make sure everything functions as required. if any given STANAG magazine doesn't seat w/30 rds in it, toss it and go to supply. that 28 rds rule is an old myth dating back to vietnam.
I don't know about you cats but I find it easier to mount a mag with 28 rounds versus 30 when I already have a round in the chamber. I don't know why but I can't seem to get it to seat right half the time.
I have never felt the issued mags I got were even consistent enough to make a rule. Some fed 30 just fine. Others had trouble past 10.
I always loaded my 30 rd mags with 30 rounds and oddly never had a Problem with them. Of course I always cleaned them, and lightly oiled the spring followed by giving it a little tug before reassembly. Proper PMCS
The only issued 30rnd mags I don't load all the way are the black follower mags. Never had a problem loading green or new tan ones. Like LD says, long as you take care of your equipment, you will have no problems.
Blanks on the other hand, I never load my mags past 28/29.
rotate the magazines, clean them if the follower gets sticky, and load them to their capacity.
I always heard to only load 28 or 29 with standard usgi mags. But like everyone says, do your pmcs and you should have no problems. No longer an issue with PMAG's. You can even leave fully loaded with the cover on.
