Default Greece's 'Führer' wants Istanbul back

The leader of Greece's extreme right wing Golden Dawn Party, Nikos Mihaloliakos, has said during an interview that Istanbul could be taken back in the future, private broadcaster NTV reported today on its website.

"Is it realistic to ask for Istanbul, where 15 millions Turks live, while there are only 3,000 Rum [Anatolian Greek]?" Greece's daily Proto Thema asked Mihaloliakos following his words.

"Jewish people founded a state on their ancient land in 1948 after centuries had passed." Mihaloliakos answered."I am not saying that we have to fight with Turks by weapons. However, we should not forget that Hellenism existed in Anatolia, Pontus and Thrace for centuries."

"Our hearts are with the Queen City [Istanbul]. Hooray Konstantinos Palaiologos!" he said. Mihaloliakos had previously attended an event related to the conquest of Istanbul.

Mihaloliakos is nicknamed "Führer," referring to Hitler, and he has said that this nickname does not bother him.

Everyone knows the guy is a nutcase and only gets votes because:

a)There are 1.5 million illegal immigrants loose in the streets
b)His party has replaced the police in some really bad neighbourhoods protecting the Greeks still living there.
c)People want to vent their anger on the system

    Nothing more to see here.

Btw. Does he want all the former Greek colonies back, too? Massalia, Syracuse, the Crimea to name a few

Nonsense. it's Miklagard. What's good enough for the Vikings, is good enough for me. I hope they plan to reestablish the Varangian guard too.

If Denmark wants to pay for that ****hole, the Turks might welcome the idea.
They might oppose greeks on principle but many turks in know don't particularly like Constantine's city anway, with its curious mixture of suburban slums and downtown hipsters...

Yeah, the guys a nutcase....but so was Hitler. And, seeing the economic situation in Greece, it would be easier for a fool like this to get a following. Just saying.

How is a guy who holds 7% of seats in parliament a Fuhrer?

It's bad to use this kind of language with how emotional Erdogan can get though, the guy seems hard to restrain and apt to overreact.

Yes, and if you try to claim otherwise then I'm going to club a little kitten on the head.

Anyway, not unsurprisingly the Turkish newspaper appears to have sexed up the story a bit. His point seems to have been that: "we should not forget that Hellenism existed in Anatolia, Pontus and Thrace for centuries." - And that's an entirely sane, and indeed correct, point to make. Although a correct timeframe would be more in the line of millenia.
