"108 close-combat vehicles (with an option to buy 30 more) to work with the army's Leopard tanks".
What kind of definition is this? I never read about this definition about western armoured vehicles .
CFB GAGETOWN, N.B. - The federal government is spending $708 million to buy 500 armoured vehicles for the Canadian Army. They will be built by Textron Systems Canada Inc., based in Ottawa."The new vehicles, the first of which are expected to be delivered in 2014, will provide our soldiers with great multi-role combat capability," said Julian Fantino, associate minister of national defence, as he made the announcement Friday at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown in southern New Brunswick.http://www.globalnews.ca/sports/cana...506/story.html

Oops, ill fix that right away
More on the TAPV here http://textrontapv.ca/
It isn't a category of vehicle like IPV, APC, MBT etc. Rather its the name of the CF program.
The CCV is intended to overcome the aforementioned deficiencies in capabilities as well as fulfill future operational concept requirements. Changes in recent years to the threats facing the CF on operations have led to increased attention on protection. The CCV is envisaged as a medium armoured capability (25-45 tonnes) that will bridge the gap between the current light (5-20 tonnes) and heavy armoured (45 tonnes +) vehicle fleets. Specifically, the CCV will increase force/crew survivability, providing troops with the enhanced protection and mobility of a medium armoured vehicle, allowing them to effectively operate in intimate support of CF tanks in close combat with enemy forces.
Where are they getting the money?
The Harpergovermint is acting like a spendthrift between credit card bills. Last week they were announcing a world-wide search for 'strategic' military bases in Asia and Africa. These, obviously, places to put Canada's new 'streamlined' 95 000-strong Armed Forces. The good news - they're not in cold places.
But one has to wonder how Harpergovermint is going to do that - having cooked-off one of the best military base deals on earth over landing rights in Canada for a couple extra Emirates flights? Add to that, they wouldn't be able to pay for parking space without raising TAXES - the ultimate neo-con bug-a-boo.
Watch for an extended amortization/delivery period on the new MAVs as well.
