    Rather quick death.
The free syrian army doesn't look as helpless as the Libyan rebels, anyone else notice that it looks like the Syrian airforce is rather absent?

Probably want to avoid another "No fly zone".

Anyways, I agree that it seems like that was a quick death.

Wouldn't be so sure about that. The Syrian government has no problem using helicopter gunships, nobody is stopping them from using fast jets. This is from today in Hama:

Could be routine, could be nothing. I haven't seen any evidence so far of the Air Force being used besides for recon but I imagine it wont be long before you start to see Assad getting really desperate and ordering his pilots to drop bombs on towns. That jet's landing at the same airport where the helicopter's that are rocketing towns are based. I wouldn't put it past that guy.

Supposedly at the start of the conflict FSA managed to kill 16 air pilots in a bus transported to an airbase. For a country as small as Syria, they might have been the core of well trained and loyal pilots the regime could have depended on...

And it seems that your input to this thread has so far been absolutely... 0.

So you certainly don't have to know a lot.

Fast jet pilot tend to come from elite families in those places. Perhaps 'proper' air force pilots won"t shoot on civilians or have already decided to hedge against the regime falling. Or perhaps they just haven't been ordered in yet.

I'm not sure the battlefield has developed to the point where mud movers would be useful. So far only gunships here and there. But wait a few months and the MiGs will be up..........followed by defections.

There have been several reports of pilots defecting.

There was one story about a gunship pilot defecting to Turkey while on a mission to hit rebels in Aleppo, not before using his ammunition against a government building.

That was confirmed as fake...was actually a video of a Ukrainian Mi-24 on display at a museum.

Wasn't aware that they circulated a video to the press.

If I had to guess, I would say it looks like a MT-LB, than a T-72.

Do the Syrians even have MT-LBs?

Would be harder to explain the secondary explosion if it was simply an APC.

To be honest, I'm not sure anymore since I can't find a pic of anything that resembles a Syrian MT-LB.

    EDIT:
Actually, in the end it does seem to be a BMP-1 seeing where the exhaust smoke is coming from.

I think the closest platform to a MT-LB the Syrians have is the 2S1 but we can both agree that this isn't the case in this video.
