Really appreciate everyone who contributes to the daily pics threads.

What's the encapsulation cell in those X-37B photos used for? Transport?

Nevermind, I guess that's the doodad they mount on top of the rocket.

Another way to quickly tell U.S. Army from U.S. Marine troops is to check out the sight used on their M16s. Army use either EOtech holographic sights or Aimpoint sights. Marines exclusively use (as far as I know) Trijicon ACOGs.

Is it just me or does the first marine in this photo have no magazine in his rifle?

No. He's got the mag in there. It's probably just hidden behind the chest rig. It's common to ride the gun in the gear like that, mag tucked away; less strain on the arms during long roving patrols. They're in A-Stan: he is sure as $h!t rolling with a mag-in. There's no way he wouldn't be.

That's what I was thinking, but didn't have a chance to blow the pic up to be sure.

US Marine Sgt. Hintz, presented in 3 of the 6 photos, is the patrol leader. If you had looked at all 6 photos you would have plainly seen the mag in his rifle.

Also, all Marines, always have the open bag on their left hip. The Army does not have this piece of equipment.
