23 gravestones go missing from D.C. Civil War cemetery
im not positive but i think the St. Elizabeth's campus is being repurposed into the new headquarters of DHS and the Coast Guard... currently each component of DHS has a seperate headquarters office scattered around DC. the plan was to put them all under one roof... The original brick hospital building was supposed to be the main office space visible from the outside, with the majority of the workspaces underground.
Sounds like this cemetery wasn't run by the ABMC.
Normally, I wouldn't weigh in on a theft, but who the fvck steals a headstone!? I am not the best person in the world, but that just boggles my mind. I cant even think about a good enough punishment for someone who would do this. Maybe 2 years in the pokey per headstone plus 10,000 hours community service in a Veterans Cemetery.
Some Obssessed ACW Collector buying them no doubt.
