Infuriating as it is for me, it's hardly surprising he was suspended. The amount of self-confidence these f*ckheads have to approach troops so close just goes to show that they know the odds of them getting hurt are slim.
    x2, except I'll leave a deuce.

Not a helicopter, but an old WWII M3 halftrack - a thing of beauty she was.

Just read this article, and wanted to make a comment about the following paragraph:

According to the new guidelines, soldiers are not allowed to open fire, even in the air, toward Palestinians who are stoning them. In addition, soldiers driving in an armored jeep are not allowed to shoot at a Palestinian who is about to throw a Molotov cocktail at them.
Back in the day, there was a standing shoot to kill order on anyone with a Molotov cocktail - no exceptions.

A buddy of mine was reprimanded for failing to shoot at a Molotov thrower. His explanation that the terrorist was no longer visible after throwing the Molotov cocktail was meet with the expectation that he should have fired in the air nonetheless. A bit of context is necessary as the event above occurred not long after 2 reservists burned to death in a jeep hit by a Molotov cocktail.

The same was true during my service, which was not that long ago.

It seems to me that petrol bombs aren't as popular as they used to be, most probably because of this.

And now the trend might change once again and with it the ROE as well

I have a great idea. Issue israeli troops a mag full of rubber bullets, and if Palestinians start throwing rocks at them or using slingshots etcetera, they shoot them in the stomach with the rubber bullet.
After a while the kids will get the message. (And they are fortunate to have the Tavor with red dot, which is accurate enough for those precision hits)

I'm actually a little surprised israeli soldiers don't have a less lethal option always on them, given their police like duties.

In this situation the officer didn't act as a professional according to the f*cking media(all my support go to him of course whatever he do) he should not go on the same field with the paliboy, throwing stones, firing on the ground... We clearly see that the palestinians understood that the officer loose his self control and they try to make the face to face degenerate. Of course I understand how frustrating it is to be agressed without be able to use the power they get in the hand, that is why it is better to have "pakalist" with rubber bullets and smoke grenade to end this event in a way that keep the image and the pride of IDF safe.

Well, unless I never got the memo, it was never allowed to fire at rock throwers anything other than less than lethal ammunition, unless in a situation of clear ans present self defense or danger for which you'd have some explaining to do.
BTW, this officer deserves his punishment, because he either failed to enforce the ROE upon himself (so what does it tell the troops), and if he was in a clear and present danger, he failed to make his shots count, and this is maybe even worse.

BTW, anyone serving in the WB nowadays knows that for every event you'll have dozens of cameras on you, so either you play smart, or you learn to be ninja like stealth, because there is no evading the lens.

And you are one hell of a tool, for thinking that he is a badass, while he knows exactly what he risks, about nothing.
