Awesome. I never worked with Excalibur when I was TACP but met guys who had. They all loved it.

Maybe my conversion skills are a bit rusty, but aren't a few howitzers out there that have been able to match and exceed that range for a while?.

Also, for some reason I thought this was cancelled along with the Crusader.

I don't think it's the range per se but the low number of rounds they fired to complete the firemission. But maybe I'm off grids here...
Along with it being the furthest ex firemission

OS: I'm not gonna comment on that cuz last time I tried to crack a joke with that guy I got suspended....

That is 36 km. Other systems can get greater range, but that usually requires base bleed or rocket-assisted ammunition.

    Nope.

Excalibur can hit within 20 meters of the target. Regular 155 is 200m or more.

I seem to remember a fire mission in Iraq where Army artillery fired a couple of Excalibur rounds at some insurgent leader hiding in a house. The weapon was fired at great distance and scored direct hits with minimal collateral damage.

Excellent news. Precision arty round at that distance I'm overly impressed.

Anybody have any idea how long it takes for the round to hit its target at that distance?

Precision electronics that can survive being fired out of a howitzer are impressive indeed.

I think about a minute and a half, but best you get a more definitive answer from a cannon cocker.

If I am not wrong they fired from a M 777. It has a 39 calibre barrel. 36km
That is the limit for the projectile.

827m/ sec max muzzle velocity for M777, so about 44 seconds for 36km.

is that accurate? considering the trajectory of the projectile, the distance covered will be longer than 36km
