Default Azerbaijan to replace “Kalashnikov” with Israeli “Tavor” assault rifle

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan plans to replace Kalashnikov (AK) with Israeli Tavor to build on its territory a plant producing these weapons.

In the post- Soviet states, special forces of Azerbaijan and Georgia are armed with Tavor- a model of the modern Israeli 5.56mm assault rifle, manufactured by concern Israel Military Industries.

Earlier, Israeli concern Aviation Industry has signed a contract with Azerbaijan for the supply of a few tens of unmanned aerial vehicles. Azerbaijan has also agreed with Israel to purchase arms worth USD 1.6bn.

Interesting since newer AK variants are in use in Azerbaijan. Wonder how many AKs are going to be actually be replaced?

The newest AK version Azerbaijan is using is AK-74M and it produces it under license
so I am wondering if production of AKs will stop since they said they are gonna build a factory

I remembered Azerbaijani executives wanted to make a deal with Turkish Company MKEK to produce new 7.62mm Assault rifle under licence but they are going to buy Tavor

And ıt's more effective than Tavor in the highlands ,like Azerbaijani frontline stations in Karabagh Mountains. In the highland areas always 7.62mm ammunation better than 5.56 ones

This is the first big military purchase of the tavor, too bad it's from a military that doesn't see any action. At 95 000 though it's quite large.

I know right? who would pick a battle proven design that has been used in nearly every continent, over that?

While they don't see the same level of action as the Americans you can't qualify them as an army that doesn't see action, thats just none-sense, just a few days ago I remember reading about that area flaring up again.
